Sir Woofchester’s is a fast-growing pet product brand with a unique twist: it’s designed specifically for pampered pooches enjoying the high life at hospitality venues.

From pubs and cafés to hotels and farm shops, the company supplies dog-friendly treats and accessories that elevate the customer experience for pet owners.

Based in Barrow-in-Furness, the business has grown from a one-man operation into a national brand with over 2,000 stockists across the UK.

Founded by Dave Wright in 2019, Sir Woofchester’s began as a part-time venture. “It was just me and my dog,” Dave recalled.

“We spent a lot of time in pubs and cafés, and I kept thinking – why isn’t anyone doing dog biscuits for these places?”

With a background in the pet trade and a keen eye for opportunity, Dave decided to fill that gap.

The concept was simple but powerful: create high-quality, well-packaged dog treats tailored for hospitality settings. “We’re not in pet shops much,” Dave explained. “Our products are sold in pubs, hotels, cafés, National Trust properties; places where people go with their dogs and want to treat them.”

“The high street is picking up, BAE is expanding, and there’s a real mix of small businesses and big players. It’s a rich and diverse business community.”

After a slow start and a pandemic-induced pause, the business took off in 2021 when Dave relocated to Barrow. “It was the best thing I ever did,” he said.

“I was able to buy a commercial property I could afford, find somewhere affordable to live, and build a team of great local people. I seriously think Sir Woofchester’s might not have made it if I hadn’t moved here.”

The Barrow premises now houses a bustling operation. “We’ve got a two-storey building just off the town centre,” Dave said.

“It’s packed with stock, machines, and a team of ten. When I first moved in, I was rattling around in one room. Now we’re bursting at the seams.”

Sir Woofchester’s product range is as imaginative as it is extensive. From “doggy dinners” like fish and chips and roast beef to non-alcoholic beverages such as “Bark Brew Beer” and “Paw Star Martini,” the brand combines novelty with quality.

“We’ve got 27 products now,” said Dave. “Some are made at source, but most are packed right here in Barrow. We’ve got semi-automated filling equipment and a team that handles everything from labelling to boxing.”

Innovation is central to the brand’s success. “We’re not doing high-tech engineering like some businesses, but we are innovating in our own way,” Dave said.

“Our packaging is unique, our products are unique, and we’re selling into a market that no one else in the pet trade was targeting when we started.”

Dave’s entrepreneurial journey has been shaped by experience. Before launching Sir Woofchester’s, he worked in finance, ran a hotel, and built several product-based businesses.

Barrow has played a key role in the company’s growth. “There’s a lot of investment coming into the town,” Dave said. “The high street is picking up, BAE is expanding, and there’s a real mix of small businesses and big players. It’s a rich and diverse business community.”

He’s optimistic about the future. “We’re probably going to double in size over the next 12 months,” he said. “We’re looking at expanding our premises, building additional support, and maybe even exporting. But for now, we’re focused on growing our UK presence  – and Barrow is the perfect base for that.”
